Student found dead at Northern Illinois University frat house

Police Line“It’s very sad news,” said Brad Hoey, director of communications and marketing at Northern Illinois University. “Our condolences go to the family and friends involved. We will continue to support them with our thoughts and prayers.”

The body of a NIU student was found this morning at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house. NIU Police is currently performing an investigation and is in the process of notifying the relatives of the undisclosed student.

According to DeKalb County Coroner Dennis J. Miller, there is no signs of suicide and nothing suggesting trauma or foul play. There is still no official word from the university Interfraternity Council and Student Leadership and Development Offices regarding this event.

“Our hearts are broken, you never want to see this happen,” university spokesman Brad Hoey said. “We are still trying to get to the bottom of what happened.”

An autopsy is scheduled this Saturday to determine the cause of death. “We do believe that alcohol may have been involved,” he said. “That is one of the things that was shared, that there was alcohol present.”

School counseling services are open and willing to help those dealing with this loss.

update: The student was identified as David Bogenberger a 19 year old student who was not part of the fraternity. Bogenberger was living in the dormitories on campus.

Pi Kappa Alpha is currently in good standings with the university and not known for partying or disruptive behavior.
