Ball State University hosted its first Straight But Not Narrow event to help raise awareness and to make the statement, “hate is not okay”. SBNN is a non-profit organization that strives to positively influence the interactions between young adults and those in the LGBT community. The mission statement can’t be much better worded that it is on their Facebook page.
Our goal is to have everyone say “Straight, gay, or somewhere inbetween…. why does it matter?”
The event brought together a couple dozen BSU students, gay and straight, to compete in a flag football tournament. SBNN is heading into its third year of operation and has been receiving tremendous amount of support ranging from college students to Hollywood celebrities.
Ball State University also runs a voluntary network of staff, students and community members that support equal treatment regardless of sex, race or sexual orientation. The SAFEZONE offers information, workshops, counseling and social events for those interested in supporting or just learning more about the LGBT community.
