There seems to be a big hoopla over a name. Montana State University Billings College of Technology has officially launched with their all new name and logo. The school will now be known as the City College at Montana State University Billings. Neither name really rolls off the tongue very easily and acronym choices are ugly at best. CC@MSUB?
There is a strategic importance to the all the name changing that has been going on recently. Not only did the College of Technology get changed but so all the state junior two year colleges. Some of the other names you’ll be seeing around town include Bitterroot College University of Montana, Gallatin College Montana State University, Helena College University of Montana, Highlands College of Montana Tech, and Missoula College University of Montana. They like their names long.
The state is trying to send out the message, “we’re not just a technical/vocational school anymore”. The schools have provided much more than automotive technology and welding for quite sometime. Programs include business administration, medical coding, sustainable energy technology, nursing and fire science to name a few. Commissioner for two-year colleges, John Cech said, “The re-branding promises to help better communicate the new comprehensive mission to make two-year education in Montana better understood and better utilized across the state.”
Along with the new sign, letterheads and information pamphlets are new website addresses. Check out the changes or to see what’s being offered by the revamped two-year colleges from their website below (and a shortened version of their names).
